The Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the University of Limerick, together with the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS), proudly celebrated a major milestone as Professor Daniel Toal delivered his inaugural lecture. The event marked a significant moment in a career that has had a lasting impact on the fields of electrical engineering, robotics, and marine technology—particularly through his leadership at CRIS, where cutting-edge research is driving innovation in robotics for extreme and offshore environments.
During the lecture, Professor Toal reflected on his professional journey and highlighted some of the centre’s most ground breaking research, showcasing CRIS’s role at the intersection of robotics, engineering, and real-world applications in complex and demanding environments. He also touched on his work as the founding course director for UL’s Robotics Engineering and Electrical Engineering BE/ME programmes, which have helped train a new generation of skilled engineers and researchers.
The event was a proud moment for the university community, shining a spotlight on CRIS’s continued commitment to research excellence, innovation, and real-world impact.
