The CRIS (Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems) team participated in Wind Energy Ireland Trade Show, held in RDS Dblin on 6th and 7th November. The two-day event served as a key platform for discussing Ireland’s offshore wind energy ambitions and the technological challenges the sector faces in the years ahead.
Gerard Dooly, CRIS co-director, took center stage with a presentation on the team’s innovative bird monitoring technology. This development, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of wind energy projects, is a critical part of ensuring sustainable offshore wind farm operations.
The CRIS team also highlighted their work on intervention, repair, and maintenance surveys at WindFloat Atlantic, the world’s first semi-submersible floating offshore wind farm operated by OW Ocean Winds. This project, along with other recent offshore operations, showcased CRIS’s role in advancing technology for monitoring and maintaining wind farm infrastructure.
Representing CRIS at the event were team members Daniel Toal, Gerard Dooly, Edin Omerdic, Petar Trslić, PhD, Phillipe Santos, and Isela Ibrahimovic, who engaged with industry stakeholders and shared insights on their cutting-edge research. The event provided a unique opportunity for the team to connect with key players in the wind energy sector and discuss potential collaborations for the future.
The CRIS team expressed gratitude to the event organizers and participants for a successful and engaging show. Looking ahead, the team is excited to explore new opportunities to contribute to Ireland’s growing offshore wind sector and continue to innovate in the field of renewable energy.
