What better way to celebrate UL Research Week than with the success of one of our own researchers? The Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS) is proud to congratulate Mahammad Irfan on the successful defence of his PhD thesis, titled:
“Multi-Sensor Fusion & SLAM System for UAV Navigation in GPS-Denied Environments.”
Irfan’s work focuses on one of the key challenges in modern robotics—developing reliable navigation systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating in complex and GPS-denied environments. His research contributes to the advancement of robust multi-sensor fusion techniques and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), both of which are critical for autonomous navigation in remote, indoor, and underwater settings—areas of core focus at CRIS.
We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Irfan’s supervisors — Dr. Gerard Dooly, Dr. Petar Trslić, and Dr. Matheus Santos — for their outstanding guidance and support throughout his research journey.
On behalf of the entire CRIS team, we wish Irfan every success as he takes the next step in his professional career. His work stands as a testament to the cutting-edge research and talent nurtured here at the University of Limerick.
