This week, our Founding Director, Professor Daniel Toal, and Co-Director, Professor Gerard Dooly, appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Artificial Intelligence for the session “AI: Defence, Security and Cybersecurity.”
They provided expert testimony on the role of AI, and in particular field robotics. Robots are a clear embodiment of artificial intelligence and are increasingly essential for cyber, defence, and security applications across our airspace, land, ocean and seabed. Their evidence highlighted the growing importance of AI-enabled field robotics, including marine and aerial systems, and the need for a dedicated national capability to support the development and deployment of these critical technologies.
This was an important opportunity to contribute to the national discussion and policy development around the future of trustworthy, strategic AI and robotic systems research, development, and deployment.
